work + live residential

work isn’t life

…or is it? Since the advent of cellular
communication and online meetings, it is harder
than ever to separate work from life.

This client asked for a residential complex with
attached offices per unit. Offices, as our precedents showed, although allowing small businesses to conduct meetings and other work, means that the residents could be closer to their
work than ever.

In the context of Gracia, Barcelona, square
footage is limited. The city code constrains the outer boundary as well as maximum height, potentially trapping
hot/stale air and making
direct sunlight a scarcity.

what if…
…the offices were separated as far as possible from the residential units?
…the separation of office and residential creates
a void to ameliorate the challenges of the site?
(this project met all square footage requirements,
while being sensitive to the quality of life)
