florissant fossil beds pavilion

funicular timber shell with minimal footprint, enclosed in ETFE

The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in Colorado have a series of prehistoric, petrified tree stumps. These are currently exposed to the elements, and are particularly vulnerable to daily freeze-thaw cycles. A design a pavilion was needed to shield the PTSs, while also providing a wide field of view to visitors to the public monument.

In collaborations with the National Park Service at the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Knipper Shelbig Engineering, Fabritecture NYC, Facade Textiles, and Eventscape NYC.
